Information for Teachers
Your role at the session
European Youth Parliament conferences are more than just an opportunity to represent your school. They are also about personal development, intercultural dialogue and cooperation. As a teacher, your role is vital in supporting, motivating, and guiding your students before and during the Conference, ensuring they feel confident and comfortable throughout the session, and creating a safe space for them to share their experiences with you.
If, unfortunately, we have to deal with the Delegates breaking the Code of Conduct, we rely on you being our primary contact to resolve the situation appropriately.
Apart from the conference programme aimed mostly at the Delegates, there will be an accompanying programme for the teachers that will allow you to see the best of our conference, explore the amazing city of Písek and share your experiences with other teachers attending the conference.
Motivation for the students
The European Youth Parliament is a fun and creative way to educate and interest the youth in politics, while helping students develop important skills that will be beneficial in the future. Among many indescribable aspects of personal development, attending conferences deepens their academic knowledge and general English language skills. They help students learn how to participate in open and constructive discussions.
EYP is a safe space where everyone can feel welcome and engage themselves in any way they see fit. It opens an intercultural dialogue where the youth can share their experiences and grow into young adults with many new friends, skills, and memories.
Our aim is to create an open and welcoming space for the students to feel comfortable and supported during the conference. However, we deeply appreciate any form of motivation from you, someone Delegates already know and trust.
Communication before the conference
There will be a person directly responsible for all of the communication between you and EYP. We will keep you informed about all the key aspects of the conference. Please check your email regularly to ensure you have all the necessary information.
Preparation for committee work
The Delegates will be split into seven committees, each focusing on a different topic. Before the session, they will receive an Academic Preparation Kit, in which they will find a Topic Overview — a document summarising their topic. The best way to prepare for Committee Work is by reading the Topic Overviews and finding their own resources. It might be helpful to go through their topic with them during an English lesson.
Appreciating the work of your students
Being recognised and appreciated for all the effort and work one puts into a project is one of the best rewards, which is precisely why your support means so much to the students.
We truly appreciate that both you and the students dedicated so much of your free time to be a part of this conference. The conference may be quite overwhelming for the students, and having there someone ‘from the outside world’ who they can talk to and who can give them words of encouragement is invaluable.
Dress code
While Delegates often prepare for Committee Work, they may underestimate the importance of the Dress Code. We want everyone attending the Conference to feel as comfortable as possible, however, there are parts of the Conference where we gently ask to follow the Dress Code. During the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, guests and speakers will be present, and we would appreciate it if everyone were to dress in a presentable way. So, we kindly suggest that you talk to your students about it beforehand to avoid any misunderstandings and ensure they are dressed according to the conference’s Dress Code.
