Sustainability

We encourage you to make your journey as sustainable as possible by considering the following:

  • For trips under 10 hours, opt for a train journey.
  • Prioritise public transport instead of personal transport whenever possible
  • If flying, choose a direct flight to Prague whenever possible.
  • Reduce unnecessary emissions: pack light, bring a reusable bottle.

In EYP, we value protecting the environment and we encourage you to make conscious travel choices. We know it is not always easy to travel sustainably while also keeping your trip fast and affordable, yet we strongly encourage you to keep the environment in mind.

Getting around Hradec Králové

  • You must have a valid ticket while inside any bus or trolleybus. You can buy it with a credit card at ticket machines inside the bus (by every door) if you are over 15 years old and your journey is under 10 minutes. You simply place your card on the reader and it will automatically choose this ticket. If you are under 15 years old or are travelling for longer than 10 minutes, you need to click “Nákup jiné jízdenky” and choose a different ticket.

Getting around Prague

  • Tickets for Prague’s public transport can be purchased at the yellow PID (Prague Integrated Transport) vending machines using cash or card, at most newsstands, or directly on board of buses and trams with a contactless card at the orange machines, usually located to the right of the doors in the middle of the vehicle. You can choose between tickets for 30 CZK (valid for 30 minutes) or 40 CZK (valid for 90 minutes).
  • If you buy a paper ticket in advance (not on board), you must validate it in the yellow stamping machines inside the bus or tram, or before entering the metro or train.
Ticket machines
  • You can also buy tickets through the PID Lítačka app, but it requires registration. The prices are the same as at the orange on-board machines or the yellow vending machines.
  • All tickets are valid across different types of transport. For example, a 90-minute ticket remains valid for 90 minutes regardless of whether you use the metro, tram, bus, or train, as long as you stay within the city limits.
  • The Czech Republic does not use the Euro but its own currency, the Czech Crown. The Czech Republic is a card-friendly country, and you can pay by card almost anywhere. You can exchange Euros for Crowns or withdraw Crowns from an ATM, though both options can be tricky.
  • Many exchange offices offer very poor exchange rates or charge high fees. If you are unhappy with the exchange rate, you have the legal right (within three hours and with the receipt) to request your money back and have the transaction reversed at the same rate. In practice, however, you may need to be quite firm to exercise this right.
  • We also recommend avoiding Euronet ATMs (blue “ATM” sign on a yellow background), as they often come with hidden fees and unfavourable conversion rates.
